MRC START in STOP-ACEi: What are the effects of a multimedia resource on recruitment? A nested, randomised controlled trial

چکیده

1. Background In the UK, the NIHR vision sees ‘more patients and health professionals participating in health research’ [1]. Fundamental to health research is the testing of interventions through RCTs. Achieving high participation in RCTs has traditionally been difficult. Published data show that a minority of RCTs recruit successfully [2,3]. Recruitment problems reduce the total recruited sample (limiting internal validity), and the proportion of eligible participants who are recruited (limiting external validity).

Improving recruitment to a study of telehealth management for long-term conditions in primary care: two embedded, randomised controlled trials of optimised patient information materials

BACKGROUND Patient understanding of study information is fundamental to gaining informed consent to take part in a randomised controlled trial. In order to meet the requirements of research ethics committees, patient information materials can be long and need to communicate complex messages. Promoting Recruitment using Information Management Efficiently (PRIME): a stepped-wedge, cluster randomised trial of a complex recruitment intervention embedded within the REstart or Stop Antithrombotics Randomised Trial

BACKGROUND Few interventions are proven to increase recruitment in clinical trials. Recruitment to RESTART, a randomised controlled trial of secondary prevention after stroke due to intracerebral haemorrhage, has been slower than expected. Therefore, we sought to investigate an intervention to boost recruitment to RESTART. METHODS/DESIGN We conducted a stepped-wedge, cluster randomised trial ...

A nested randomised controlled trial of a leaflet, containing information on research, to increase the recruitment rate of reform (reducing falls with orthoses and a multifaceted podiatry) trial participants

Background Poor recruitment is a major problem in randomised trials. Although pre-notification has been demonstrated to be an effective strategy for increasing response rates to postal questionnaires (Edwards et al, 2010), the usefulness of this approach to aid trial recruitment has never been evaluated. This study, nested within the NIHR funded REFORM Trial, aimed to identify whether increasin...
